TrainPal deals
1 Current Deal
Requires you to purchase any train ticket to activate the railcard
A railcard gets one-third off most rail travel and the majority of them cost £35 for one-year, but if you're new to third-party booking site TrainPal*, use the code MSERC9 to get £9 off a digital railcard (one that's stored on your phone), making it £26 for one year. You'll need to sign up using the code by 11.59pm on Tuesday 31 March.
Two important things to note with this deal:
-
You'll need to buy any train ticket within 30 days (no minimum spend) to activate your railcard. To avoid forgetting this, it's best to do it as soon as possible after buying your railcard.
-
The railcard can only be accessed via the free TrainPal app which you'll need to download. You can't transfer it to the official Railcard app after purchasing, nor can you add it to your digital wallet (Apple or Android).
How to get £9 off a one-year railcard:
-
Sign up for a free account at TrainPal*. If you're given the option to enter the code while signing up, you can – enter the code MSERC9 in the 'Promo code (optional)' box.
-
Once signed in, select the Account/Member icon and then 'Promo Codes'. Or in the app, go to the 'Account' tab and tap 'Vouchers & Promo Code'. If you entered the code while signing up, your £9 off voucher will appear here. If you didn't, enter it in the 'Enter promo code' box ('Enter code' in the app) to add it to this section. The code is valid for 90 days once you've added it to your account.
-
Go to the TrainPal digital railcards page* and choose the railcard you want. The discount should be automatically applied. It won't charge a booking fee.
-
Don't forget to purchase a train ticket within 30 days to activate your railcard – there's no minimum spend for this, so you could just buy the cheapest possible fare. If you don't activate your railcard, you'll be issued an automatic refund.
The code can only be used to buy one of the following digital railcards: 16-17 Saver, 16-25, 26-30, Family & Friends, Network, Senior, and Two Together. The offer excludes the Disabled Person's Railcard and Veteran's Railcard.
It's worth noting that on the Family & Friends variant, the railcard can only be shown on the TrainPal account it was purchased from, so the second person cannot add the card to their own phone and they cannot use it independently.
What about three-year railcards?
Use a different code – MSE25 – when following the steps above to get 25% off a three-year railcard, making it £60 instead of £80. You'll need to add the code to your account by 11.59pm on Saturday 28 February. If you aren't new to TrainPal, you can get the same 25% discount on a three-year railcard if you're a Trip.com newbie.
Maximise the discount by getting 5% off your first train ticket purchase
In addition to the railcard offers above, you can also get 5% off your first UK train ticket purchase when using the code MSE25 – so you could use this discount when buying the train ticket needed to activate your railcard.
You don't have to purchase a railcard to use the 5% off code – it's open to anyone new to TrainPal making their first UK train ticket purchase until 11.59pm on Saturday 28 February.
What if I'm not new to TrainPal?
Either of the codes above will give you 10% off, making a one-year railcard £31.50, or a three-year one £72. Alternatively, if you're new to Trip.com, there's a code for that site which gets a one-year railcard for £26.25.

TrainPal Black Friday 50% off Railcards for newbies
Requires purchase of any train ticket to activate the railcard
From midday on Saturday 29 November, third-party booking app TrainPal is offering a Black Friday deal of 50% off a digital one-year railcard, reducing the price to £17.50 (normally £35). You'll need to be quick, as this is limited to only 400 half price Railcards.
Important: This deal is only valid for newbies to the TrainPal app (you can't redeem it online or if you're an existing customer). If you manage to grab a half price Railcard, you'll need to purchase a rail ticket on TrainPal within 180 days in order to activate your Railcard. With this deal, the railcard can only be accessed via TrainPal – you can't transfer it to the Railcard app after purchasing.
How good is this deal? Though very limited, 50% off a Railcard is easily the best deal we've seen this year. If you travel by train frequently, it's worth trying to grab one. If not, we've 25% off Railcards (that'll make it £26.25 for a one-year railcard, or £60 for three years).
Any other ways to save on trains this Black Friday? Once again, only via the TrainPal app, new customers can get £5 off UK train ticket purchases with the code: MSEBF2025 with a minimum spend of £5.01. Returning customers can only get 2% off – it seems majority of TrainPal's best deals are for newbies this year. The code can only be used once per account.

Important: Don’t allow yourself to be taken in by the hype around Black Friday and be sucked into buying something you don’t need or can’t afford. Always do your own price comparisons to ensure you are getting the best deal possible – don’t just take a retailer’s word for it.

TrainPal Black Friday prediction
50% off railcards for newbies
🗓️ Predicted from Saturday 29 November, while stock lasts
In 2024, third-party booking site TrainPal offered a Black Friday deal of 50% off a digital one-year railcard, reducing the price to £15 with a code, starting at midday on the day after Black Friday. The offer was limited to 2,000 redemptions and only via the TrainPal app. If you missed out, the same code gave 34% off, making it £19.80.
We wouldn't be surprised if it does a very similar offer again this year, and if you want it, you'll need to be quick. It's worth noting, since last year, the price of most one-year railcards has increased to £35, so if it does 50% off again, that would make it £17.50.

And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.

If a link has an * by it, that means it is an affiliated link and therefore it helps MoneySavingExpert stay free to use, as it is tracked to us. If you go through it, it can sometimes result in a payment or benefit to the site. It's worth noting this means the third party used may be named on any credit agreements.
You shouldn’t notice any difference and the link will never negatively impact the product. Plus the editorial line (the things we write) is NEVER impacted by these links.
