Which Santander branches are closing in 2026/27? Here's the full list – and your banking alternatives

The bank last announced closures in March 2025, shrinking its UK network by more than a fifth.

Alternative ways to bank face-to-face with Santander

Here's what to try if your local branch is closing:

• Head to a nearby Post Office. You can withdraw cash and make deposits into your bank account via the Post Office.

• Check if there's a 'banking hub' in your area. Banking hubs are shared spaces run by the Post Office – but separate to actual Post Offices – where customers of multiple banks can deposit and withdraw cash, get face-to-face support and manage their accounts. As of Thursday 29 January, there are 210 hubs up and running around the UK, with 40 additional hubs planned.
  
  Even if there's not a Santander representative at your local hub, you can use the banking hub counter to access banking services. You can use the Post Office's branch finder to check if there's a hub near you (if there is, it'll show up in the list with a "banking hub" label).

• Check if a Santander 'community banker' is visiting your area. Community bankers have a dedicated office space in a local venue. You can chat to them in private and they can offer support with account enquiries and help you make payments. Enter your postcode on Santander's website to see if there's one near you (it'll be marked as 'Santander Local').

Santander says that the areas covered by the latest 44 branches it's closing will all get community bankers or banking hubs nearby. It's confirmed the four towns getting hubs will be Leighton Buzzard, Ormskirk, Whitehaven and Wilmslow.

If you need branch access and don't have alternative services nearby, consider switching

If you no longer want to stay with Santander, you might want to consider switching to a bank that does have a local branch nearby – although bear in mind there's no guarantee that won't close as well. Banks currently paying you to switch to them include:

• TSB – get up to £255 for switching. This is the biggest mainstream switch offer we've seen so far this year, though there are few hoops to jump through to max it – see our full review. To be eligible, you can't have had a switch bonus from TSB since 1 October 2022.

• Club Lloyds – get a free £250 for switching, plus 6.25% interest for a year on up to £400 a month, fee-free spending overseas and your choice of a reward (such as 12 months' Disney+ with ads). To get the free cash, you can't have had switch cash from Lloyds, Bank of Scotland or Halifax since 1 January 2023.
