The Bank of England has held the base rate at 5.25% for the seventh time in a row. But with some economists and traders still predicting a rate cut in August, there could be a knock on impact on mortgage and savings rates. Here's what you need to know.

Chase customer? Check if you can get its boosted 5.1% easy-access saver.
App-based bank Chase has launched a new table-topping 5.1% AER interest savings account for both new and existing customers. It follows a similar move earlier this year – though this time round, MORE customers can get it. Chase has also announced that it will axe the 1% interest paid on money held in its current accounts from 5 August – though it'll still remain one of our best buys due to its other perks.

Autumn Statement: ISA shake-up announced – though no win for Lifetime ISA savers.
A raft of changes for savers using ISAs – savings accounts where you'll never pay tax on the interest – have been announced by the Chancellor in today's Autumn Statement. However, Jeremy Hunt failed to address MoneySavingExpert.com's calls for a shake-up to Lifetime ISAs.

Martin Lewis, MoneySavingExpert.com’s (MSE's) founder and chair, is today strengthening his call for the Chancellor to overhaul the Lifetime ISA (LISA) in his 22 November Autumn Statement. Young savers should not be essentially fined – and lose their hard-saved cash – when they purchase homes above the scheme's £450,000 limit. This is a problem that leaves far more at risk now than when LISAs launched in 2017.

The Bank of England
Savers should consider locking in a top fixed rate now as the Bank of England has held the base rate at 5.25% for the second time in a row. For mortgage borrowers, the situation is less clear-cut and will depend on what type of mortgage you have and when your deal ends.

If you've got a Marcus easy-access savings account or cash ISA, you can easily boost your interest rate to 4.75% by activating its new 0.49% bonus. It's well worth doing if you don't want to switch, but better rates are available elsewhere.
