Just over 1,000 homes in Northern Ireland which were supplied electricity by small provider Open Electric have been transferred to Power NI after the regulator revoked its licence. If you were an Open Electric customer, you won't lose your electricity supply, but it's still unclear if you'll get your money back if you were in credit.

EDF Energy is cutting gas prices from January but will increase the cost of electricity from March, meaning dual fuel customers on its standard tariff will pay 1.2% more overall. If you're on its standard tariff you're almost certainly overpaying already, so check NOW if you can switch and save.

Energy giants British Gas and Npower have been wrongly telling customers coming to the end of their fixed-term contracts they'll have to pay exit fees if they switch to a different provider, MoneySavingExpert.com can reveal. Don't be fooled though – if you're in the last 49 days of your fix, you CAN switch penalty-free.

First, their prices are set to rise. On Monday smaller player Ovo Energy sneaked out a 5% rise starting in Jan - others are likely to follow.
